Changes to Parenting Payment from 1 January 2013
Changes to Parenting Payment from 1 January 2013 may affect some Centrepay and Income Management deductions. For more information see Changes to Parenting Payment - Information for Third Party Organisations receiving Centrepay or Income Management Deductions.
Through Centrepay, you can reduce your administrative costs, including additional costs caused by the withdrawal and reconnection of your service to a customer.
Organisations who offer Centrepay as a bill-payment option include providers of goods and services such as:
- private rent—hostels, nursing homes and community housing
- electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications
- rental of household goods
- education services
- child care services
- home care services
- court and legal services
- medical services and equipment.
You have to apply and be approved by the department to offer this service.
Customers can search for approved Centrepay organisations via the Find a business or organisation search tool on the Human Services website.
If your organisation or business does not wish to be displayed on this search tool, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be removed.

How Centrepay works
Centrepay deducts agreed amounts from customers’ Centrelink payments before we pay them. The deducted amounts are then used to pay bills that customers have requested to be paid via Centrepay. Customers arrange this by using online self service, by phoning us, or by completing a Centrepay deduction form. They can also contact your organisation directly to arrange deductions.
How Centrepay can help your organisation or business
With Centrepay, deductions are made directly from customers’ Centrelink payments to your organisation’s nominated bank account. This payment option helps customers pay their bills, because deductions are made before customers receive their Centrelink payments.
Costs involved in using Centrepay
Centrepay is provided on a full-cost-recovery basis and your organisation pays a transaction fee (including GST) for each successful deduction.
This fee must not be passed on to the customer. Centrepay is free for customers.
