Environmental policy

The Australian Government has implemented a range of environmental policies to minimise the impact of government operations on the environment. The Australian Government has also set agency measures and targets for carbon emissions, energy, waste and resource use, as well as set mandatory environmental standards for incorporating sustainability into government procurements.

The Department of Human Services supports these Government commitments to reduce our impact on the environment and to adopt practices that use resources sustainably. This is achieved through the department’s Environmental Management System (EMS) which is aligned to the international standard EMS ISO 14001.

The Department of Human Services environmental policy statement [pdf, 32kb] outlines this commitment. It has been signed by Kathryn Campbell, Secretary of the Department of Human Services.
