Income Management in the Northern Territory

The Australian Government is working in partnership with the Northern Territory Government to provide support to payment recipients to encourage participation and to increase their financial literacy. This model replaced the Income Management scheme under the Northern Territory Emergency Response.

Income Management does not apply to everyone in the Northern Territory. Your payments may be income managed if you:

    • Youth Allowance
    • Newstart Allowance
    • Special Benefit
    • Parenting Payment Single or Parenting Payment Partnered
  • are aged 25 and above (but under Age Pension age) and have been on one or more of the following payments for more than 12 of the last 24 months
    • Youth Allowance
    • Newstart Allowance
    • Special Benefit
    • Parenting Payment Single or Parenting Payment Partnered
  • have been referred by:
    • a department social worker
    • a child protection authority
    • the Northern Territory Alcohol and Other Drugs Tribunal

We will contact you if your payments are going to be income managed.

Moving permanently or temporarily to a new location

You will need to let us know when and if you move permanently or temporarily to a new location. If your payments are being income managed, the arrangement may continue.
