Southern New South Wales floods – February/March 2012
The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) is available to assist people who have been adversely affected by the flooding that began in February 2012 in affected local government areas within New South Wales.
The end dates for claims will depend on which area you are claiming for, please see here for more details.
Who does this apply to?
Payments of $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child will be made if you:
- are an Australian resident, and
- are 16 years or older or are receiving a social security payment, and
- have not already received an Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment for the disaster, and
- have experienced one or more of the following:
- you have been seriously injured
- you are the immediate family member of an Australian killed as a direct result of the disaster
- your home has been destroyed or has sustained major damage
- you have been stranded in your home, or unable to gain access to your home, for a period of at least 24 hours
- your home was without electricity, water, gas, sewage services or another essential service for a continuous period of 48 hours
- you are the principal carer of a dependent child who has experienced any of the above.

Southern New South Wales floods – February/March 2012 (ex-gratia assistance for New Zealanders)
An ex-gratia payment is available to assist New Zealand 'non-protected' special category visa holders (sub-class 444) who have been adversely affected by flooding in affected local government areas within New South Wales.
The end dates for claims will depend on which area you are claiming for, please see here for more details.
Who does this apply to?
Payments of $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child will be made if you:
- are 16 years or older, and
- are a non-protected special category visa holder (sub-class 444) and a 'non-resident' under the Social Security Act, and
- have participated in the Australian tax system for at least one year in the past three financial years or are currently engaged in income generating activities with a likelihood of paying tax in Australia on or before 21 March 2013, and
- have not already received an Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment for the disaster, and
- have experienced one or more of the following:
- you have been seriously injured
- you are the immediate family member of an Australian or eligible special category visa holder (sub-class 444) killed as a direct result of the disaster
- your home has been destroyed or has sustained major damage
- you have been stranded in your home, or unable to gain access to your home, for a period of at least 24 hours
- your home was without electricity, water, gas, sewage services or another essential service for a continuous period of 48 hours
