The Child Support Scheme
The Child Support Scheme is administered by the Child Support Agency (CSA). It helps separated parents transfer child support for the benefit of their children. It provides choices in managing child support so it works for both parents.
If you want more information about the family law system and services that can assist you, contact the Family Relationship Advice Line on 1800 050 321 or visit Family Relationships Online. You don’t need to be separated to get help.
As a parent, you have responsibilities and rights. You also have choices in arranging your child support in a way that works for both parents. The Child Support Scheme applies to all eligible separated families, regardless of the type or length of the relationship.
There are a number of ways child support can be assessed:
If you have a formula assessment, an agreement or court order registered with the CSA, you can transfer child support privately or ask the CSA to transfer the payments for you. Once you understand your child support options, either parent can contact the CSA to apply.
However, many parents choose to arrange child support independently instead of through the CSA, the courts or other government agencies.
