Carer Allowance

Carer Allowance is a supplementary payment available for parents or carers who provide additional daily care to an adult or child with a disability or medical condition or someone who is frail aged.

National Carer Strategy

Type 1 diabetes is now a recognised disability for Children aged 10-16 years.

From 1 Janurary 2012 some Carer Allowance customers will have increased eligibility for Bereavement Payment.

Carer Allowance is not subject to an income and assets test and is not taxable. It can be paid in addition to other income support payments such as Carer Payment or Age Pension.

You may be eligible for Carer Allowance if you are caring for a child under 16 years of age with severe disability or medical condition, or if you are looking after someone aged 16 years or over with a severe disability or medical condition, or who is frail aged.

Residential criteria also apply.
