Clean Energy Supplement

The Clean Energy Supplement provides regular assistance for low and middle income households to meet the impacts of carbon pricing on living expenses. The payment will be permanent and will increase over time.

The Clean Energy Supplement payments will be paid automatically with regular payments to pensioners and other income support recipients from March 2013. Seniors Supplement recipients will receive their Clean Energy Supplement payments in arrears from June 2013.

Clean Energy Supplement payments will be paid automatically to Family Tax Benefit recipients from July 2013.Most young people receiving youth or student payments, and Disability Support Pension recipients aged under 21 without dependent children, will start receiving regular Clean Energy Supplement payments from January 2014, following a second Clean Energy Advance payment to cover the period from July to December 2013.

The Clean Energy Supplement payments will commence with the first regular payment of income support following the end of the period covered by the Clean Energy Advance payment.

Eligible Centrelink payments

In most cases, you will receive the Clean Energy Supplement with the regular payment of your eligible Centrelink payment, providing you also meet eligibility requirements:

Clean Energy Supplement payments will be made based on your circumstances. If you are eligible for this payment they will be made automatically and you won't need to do anything.

You do not need to apply for the Clean Energy Supplement.  The Supplement will be paid automatically at the same time as regular income support and/or Family Tax Benefit payment cycles. Seniors Supplement recipients will receive the Clean Energy Supplement quarterly. Families who receive Family Tax Benefit as a lump sum payment will have the Clean Energy Supplement included in their entitlements at the end of the year.
