Community Engagement Officers

Community Engagement Officers assist people of all ages who are homeless or are having difficulties with their current housing situation to  get financial help and other services.

If you are homeless or having issues with your current housing situation, and are unable to call Centrelink or visit a Centrelink office, you can get help from a Community Engagement Officer.

Community Engagement Officers can help you get income support and other Centrelink payments and services. They can also refer you to other sources of help that are available through the government and your community.

Community Engagement Officers provide outreach assistance in a wide range of locations including:

  • drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres
  • mental health units
  • hostels, boarding houses and refuges
  • drop-in centres
  • post prison release accommodation
  • organised meeting places such as local parks

This means that Community Engagement Officers can assist you in an environment in which you feel comfortable and where you can be supported by other people such as hospital and refuge workers.
