Health Care Cards

A Health Care Card can give people access to Australian government health concessions such as low cost prescription medicines, a lower Medicare Safety Net threshold and assistance with hearing services through the Office of Hearing Services.

State, territory and local governments, as well as some private businesses, may also offer concessions to Health Care cardholders for limited household, education and public transport costs.

People who are receiving certain income support or income supplement payments or the maximum rate of Family Tax Benefit A may be eligible to receive a Health Care Card. Residency requirements also apply.

If you are receiving certain income support or income supplement payments from Centrelink, you will automatically receive the card. Partners and children may also be covered by the card if it relates to an income support payment.
