LPG Vehicle Scheme
The LPG Vehicle Scheme provides grants for the purchase of new private use vehicles fitted with an LPG unit prior to first registration, or LPG conversions of registered private use vehicles.
In August 2006, the Australian Government established the Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) Vehicle Scheme to promote the use and uptake of LPG as a transport fuel. Under the Scheme, private vehicle owners claim a grant following the purchase of new LPG powered vehicles prior to first registration, or conversion of existing registered vehicles to operate on LPG only or LPG and petrol or LPG and diesel. Eligibility criteria apply.
Claims for the scheme can be lodged at Centrelink Service Centres and Medicare Service Centres.
Capping of claims
From 1 July 2011, claims for the LPG Vehicle Scheme will be capped at 25,000 claims paid for each financial year for the life of the scheme. Once the cap is reached, no more claims can be paid for that year. Claims can be lodged up to 12 months from the date of conversion or the date of purchase of a new vehicle.
