Helps students with the ongoing costs of full-time or part-time study in a secondary or tertiary course.

Help for Indigenous Australian students

ABSTUDY provides help with costs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who are studying or undertaking an Australian apprenticeship.

Schoolkids Bonus

From January 2013, the Schoolkids Bonus will help families with education costs. If you're eligible, we'll pay you automatically. Visit our Schoolkids Bonus page for more information.

To receive the Pensioner Education Supplement, you must be in a secondary or tertiary course at an educational institution approved by the Australian Government. You must also be receiving a qualifying pension or payment. Previous tertiary study may affect whether you can get the supplement.

The amount of your supplement is based on your study load and the qualifying pension or payment you receive.

You may be eligible for Pensioner Education Supplement or ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement if you receive certain payments.

Payment rates of Pensioner Education Supplement and ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement are effective from 20 March 2012.

Other benefits for Pensioner Education Supplement

If you are eligible for the Pensioner Education Supplement you may also be eligible to receive:

  • the Education Entry Payment, which helps you pay the costs of returning to study
  • Fares Allowance, which provides assistance to cover the costs of travelling between your home and place of study if you are living away from your permanent home in order to study

If you are eligible for ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement, you may also be eligible to receive:

  • Incidentals Allowance
  • Away from Base Assistance
  • Residential Costs Option
  • Fares Allowance or
  • Relocation Allowance (for masters and doctorate students)
