LPG Vehicle Scheme

A grant to buy a new private-use vehicle fitted with an LPG unit before it is first registered, or for LPG conversions of a private-use vehicle that is already registered.

The LPG Vehicle Scheme helps support the uptake of liquefied petroleum gas or LPG as a transport fuel.

Under the scheme, private vehicle owners can claim a grant after buying a new LPG-powered vehicle before first registering it, or after converting an existing registered vehicle to operate on LPG only, or LPG and petrol, or LPG and diesel. Eligibility criteria apply.

Claims for the scheme can be lodged at DHS Service Centres.

Capping of claims

From 1 July 2011, LPG Vehicle Scheme claims are capped at 25 000 eligible claims in each financial year, for the duration of the scheme to 30 June 2014. Should the cap be reached before the end of a financial year, application processing will continue, and eligible claims will be paid in the following financial year. Claims can be lodged up to 12 months from the date of conversion or the date a new vehicle is bought.
