Medicare Bulk Billing

When your doctor accepts the Medicare benefit as full payment for a service.

Medicare card

Having a Medicare card makes seeing a doctor and some health specialists cheaper, or free if your doctor bulk bills. If you don’t already have a Medicare card, download a Medicare enrolment application form.

Many doctors bulk bill patients such as pensioners or Health Care Card holders.

If your doctor bulk bills, you will be asked to sign a form after the appointment and you will be given a copy. More than one service can be provided during the same visit and your doctor doesn’t have to bulk bill each service.

If your doctor does bulk bill, you can’t be charged any other costs such as booking, administration or record keeping fees, or a charge for bandages.
