Faecal Occult Blood Test kits procedures enquiries

The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program aims to detect cancer early and reduce cancer-related deaths. Australians turning 50, 55 or 65 years of age, who are enrolled in Medicare or have a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold card, are encouraged to complete a free and simple test.
The National Bowel Cancer Screening Register is an important part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. The register invites people to participate in the program and keeps a record of test and colonoscopy results.
If you are eligible, you will be sent information on the program and a kit to do a simple Faecal Occult Blood Test. You can do the test in the privacy of your own home and send the test samples to the screening program pathology laboratory for analysis. It does not cost you anything to do the test.
You and your doctor (if you have named a doctor) will get your test results. If your test results are positive, you will be asked to see your doctor. Your doctor will probably refer you for more tests.
