Voluntary Indigenous Identifier Program
If you are applying for any of our Centrelink, Child Support or Medicare payments or services, you may be asked if you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian.
You can choose to answer this by participating in the Voluntary Indigenous Identifier program. To participate you only need to fill out the Voluntary Indigenous Identifier form. There is no obligation to do so, but by filling out this form you will be giving helpful information to the Australian Government. We can then use the information to:
- help more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people use the programs and services available to them
- identify other programs and services that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people may find helpful
- help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to claim payments and services
- assist in developing Australian Government plans and policies in the future
If you choose to fill out the Voluntary Indigenous Identifier form, your personal information remains confidential. It is held securely and protected by the Australian Government’s privacy rules and privacy law.
