There is financial assistance and services available to people suffering severe financial hardship, recovering from a disaster or needing special assistance within their community.

This applies to people needing help in an emergency. The type of help you can get depends on your circumstances.
Financial support
There are a range of payments and services to support you in an emergency or crisis situation. You may be able to get paid an income support payment immediately if you are not already a Centrelink customer, or receive an advance lump sum payment from your existing income support payment if you are.
The type of payment or assistance that you may be eligible for will depend on your individual circumstance.

Support services
If you are facing difficult personal or family issues you can get counselling and support. You can also get help in claiming financial assistance and get information about, or be referred to, community support services.
