Medicare Services for Indigenous Australians
There are Medicare benefits, payments and services available to all Australians to help with the cost of health care services and prescription medicines. There are also services dedicated to improving access to Medicare services if you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access line
We have a free telephone service to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers get better access to Medicare services. The service is supported by staff who are culturally aware of the special conditions that may affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers.
Voluntary identification
You can identify yourself as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australian on our records. This is voluntary and gives helpful information to the Australian Government. We can use this information for many things. For instance, we can identify other programs and services that Indigenous people may find helpful.
Other government and community support services
There are a range of government and community organisations that provide support services and useful information you may find helpful.

Indigenous.gov.au connects you to information on Australian Government Indigenous initiatives and programs including early childhood, schooling, health and safety.
