Financial support

If you are studying or training, you may be eligible for financial support from Centrelink to assist with costs while you finish school, undertake tertiary education, or undertake Australian Apprenticeships or traineeships to help you find a job.

Depending on your circumstances, you may also be able to get help to cover the cost of:

  • childcare while you are studying
  • school education expenses like computers, textbooks and stationery
  • travel to and from a place of study for tertiary students living away from their home
  • moving away from home to undertake higher education.

If you are getting payments from Centrelink to help you while studying, those payments will usually continue during semester breaks and between courses.

You must let Centrelink know immediately if your circumstances change. This includes if you stop studying, change your hours of study or you do not end up enrolling in study.
