Financial support
You may qualify for income support payments if you are undertaking a full-time Australian Apprenticeship. The amount of money you can get depends on:
- your age
- how much you get paid
- what you own (your assets)
- your parents’ or partner’s income and assets
- if you live away from your permanent home when studying
If you cannot meet your obligations as an Australian Apprentice or trainee because you have a short-term illness or are injured, you may still be able to get support during this time.
While you are getting support, you need to contact Centrelink every two weeks to tell them if you have earned any money and, if so, how much. You can telephone Centrelink or contact them online. If you do not do this, your next payment may be delayed.
You must let Centrelink know immediately if your circumstances change. This includes if you stop your Australian Apprenticeship or traineeship or change your address.
