GET A JOB AT CENTRELINK EMPLOYMENT EXPO

27 February 2007

Minister for Human Services, Senator Ian Campbell, is urging local job seekers to attend the Centrelink Employment Expo at Kununurra on Thursday, 8 March.

The Kununurra event is one of a series of Centrelink Employment Expos being held in regional and remote communities around Australia.

“It’s widely acknowledged that Australia is facing a serious labour shortage and Employment Expos like this are part of the solution,” Senator Campbell said.

“The Howard Government is committed to securing Australia’s future economic prosperity.

“Helping those with a capacity to work - into a paid job - is part of that commitment.”

Senator Campbell said the Expo will link job seekers with employers, industry groups, recruitment companies and training courses to help them get back into the workforce.

“The Expo is open to everyone. There will be information to suit a range of job seekers including those returning to the workforce or finishing school,” he said.

“Visitors to the Kununurra Expo will have a chance to meet local musician and story teller, Peter Brandy, and Department of Human Services’ Indigenous Ambassador and Olympic hurdler, Kyle Vander-Kuyp.

“There’ll also be information about the range of government support services available to help people find work.”

Centrelink will be joined by other Human Services agencies, Medicare Australia, the Child Support Agency, Australian Hearing and CRS Australia, which will provide information about the services they offer.

Additional expos will be held in the Western Australian centres of Geraldton, Bunbury and Kalgoorlie throughout May.
