Legal Branch
The Branch provides legal advice to the department and the Minister for Human Services, in addition to supporting the analysis of service delivery policy initiatives.
The Branch’s main responsibilities include:
- ensuring the department meets legal requirements and manages legal risk
- coordinating legal advice and information on issues involving the Human Services agencies and particular legal matters affecting or involving more than one agency or the Commonwealth generally, including in relation to information policy issues
- participating in internal service delivery policy analysis and providing legal advice and legal-policy advice, including on specific projects requiring legal support
- coordinating and managing the Australian Government's Human Services legislative programme and
- considering opportunities for improved synergies in performance of the Human Services agencies' legal work.
