National Disability Insurance Scheme - Sector Development Fund transfer

The Department of Human Services has received funding to continue processes that ensure National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants do not also receive Mobility Allowance or payments under the Continence Aids Payment Scheme.

This Budget measure is not subject to the passage of legislation.

Description of the measure

The Department of Human Services has received funding to continue processes that ensure National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants do not also receive Mobility Allowance or payments under the Continence Aids Payment Scheme. It also prevents the garnisheeing of NDIS-specific bank accounts to recover child support debts.

The NDIS provides funding for long-term, individualised care and support that is reasonable and necessary to meet the needs of people with permanent disability. The NDIS also provides a comprehensive information and referral service to help people with disability and community support.

A phased trial of the NDIS commenced in July 2013. This trial will help inform how the Australian Government progresses to the full rollout of the scheme.
