Welfare Payment Infrastructure Transformation – Tranche One

The Welfare Payments Infrastructure Transformation (WPIT) Programme will replace the ageing Centrelink ICT system. The new system will provide more efficient and effective services to customers.

This Budget measure is not subject to the passage of legislation.

Description of the measure

This programme is one of the world’s largest social welfare ICT system transformations. It will:

  • provide customers with faster, more connected and automated digital services
  • give staff a modern ICT platform that makes it easier for them to do their jobs
  • position the department to meet future policy needs of government

Who is affected by this measure

Centrelink customers will benefit from the improvements made to our ICT system including making more of our services available online, with real time updates.

The date this measure will start and finish

This measure will start on 1 July 2015 and will run over several years.
