Income Management – two year extension

Income Management will continue to operate in existing locations until 30 June 2017. BasicsCard services will also continue to be available for all Income Management customers for the same period.

This measure started on 1 July 2015.

Description of the measure

There will be minor changes to Income Management that will improve the delivery of the program.

Income Management is a way to help customers manage their money to meet essential household needs and expenses. Under Income Management, part of a person’s income support payment is allocated for priority items such as food, housing, clothing, utilities, education and medical care.

Who is affected by this measure

People on eligible payments who live in:

  • the Northern Territory
  • Perth metropolitan, Kimberley areas, the Ngaanyatjarra (NG) Lands and Laverton Shire (including Kiwirrkurra) in Western Australia
  • Playford, the Ceduna region and the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in South Australia
  • Bankstown in New South Wales
  • Greater Shepparton in Victoria
  • the Cape York region, Logan, Rockhampton and Livingstone in Queensland

Who is eligible for this measure

People who live in the Cape York region can:

  • volunteer for Income Management
  • be placed on Income Management by the Family Responsibilities Commission

People who live in the Northern Territory can:

  • volunteer for Income Management
  • be placed on the Child Protection measure of Income Management by a Child Protection Officer
  • be placed on the Supporting People at Risk measure of Income Management by an Approved Referring Authority
  • be automatically included under the Vulnerable Welfare Payment Recipient measure of Income Management
  • be automatically included under the Long Term Welfare Payment or Disengaged Youth measures of Income Management

People who live in the Perth metropolitan area and Kimberley regions of Western Australia can:

  • volunteer for Income Management
  • be placed on the Child Protection measure of Income Management by a Child Protection Officer

People in all other Income Management locations can:

  • volunteer for Income Management
  • be placed on the Child Protection measure of Income Management by a Child Protection Officer
  • be automatically included under the Vulnerable Welfare Payment Recipient measure of Income Management

The date this measure will start and finish

This measure will start on 1 July 2015 and will end on 30 June 2017.
