Jobs for Families Package – deferred implementation

Description of the measure

From 2 July 2018, the new Child Care Subsidy and the Child Care Safety Net will be introduced. The new Subsidy and Safety Net were previously announced in the 2015-16 Budget with an implementation date of 3 July 2017.

The Child Care Subsidy will be introduced to help families using approved child care and participating in work, study, training or other recognised activity. An Additional Child Care Subsidy is also available to provide targeted additional assistance for families and grandparent carers who are disadvantaged to minimise barriers to participation and provide access to early learning. 

Families will continue to access current child care payments including Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate, if they continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
