Child and Adult Public Dental Scheme

The Government has announced its intention to close the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) from 1 July 2016 and establish a Child and Adult Public Dental Scheme in partnership with states and territories.

This measure has not started. It is subject to the passage of legislation.

The Government has announced its intention to close the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) from 1 July 2016 and establish a Child and Adult Public Dental Scheme in partnership with states and territories.

Who is impacted by this measure

Children and teenagers who were eligible for dental benefits under the CDBS are impacted by this measure. Eligible children will continue to have access to dental benefits under the CDBS until 30 June 2016.

Eligible customers and dental providers will be sent a letter about the intended closure of the scheme.

From 1 July 2016, dental benefits will not be paid under the CDBS. Dental benefit claims may be submitted after the closure as long as the service was provided before 1 July 2016.

The date this measure will start and finish

The CDBS will finish on 30 June 2016 and will be replaced by the Child and Adult Dental Scheme which starts on 1 July 2016 and is ongoing.
