Description of Measure

This measure aligns administrative arrangements with current health industry business practices and billing approaches.

The measure improves consistency across debt repayment, record keeping requirements, administrative penalties and requirements to produce documentation.

The measure also enables improved debt repayment arrangements by allowing compulsory offsetting of future Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) payments made to providers on behalf of patients and also enables the collection of additional corporate or business information from health practitioners to improve compliance activities.

Whom does this measure affect?

All health practitioners and providers claiming benefits on behalf of patients under the MBS, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and Child Dental Benefits Schedule, and their patients.

This measure will start on 1 July 2018 and is ongoing.
