Guaranteeing Medicare — Medicare Benefits Schedule — new and amended listings

This measure will change the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). This will improve the consistency of benefits paid to patients.

Description of Measure

This measure will change the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). This will improve the consistency of benefits paid to patients.

This measure includes two changes:

  • There will be a new MBS item for the insertion of a cardiac device. This will lower the risk of stroke for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation who are unable to take blood thinning medications.
  • There will be changes to multiple MBS items. These will remove the restriction for indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma. These will also reflect the appropriate ICD-10 classification for Hodgkin lymphoma.
