Description of the measure

This measure will continue the operation of Income Management in existing locations until 30 June 2019. BasicsCard services will continue to be available.

Income Management is a way to help recipients manage their money to meet essential household needs and expenses. Under Income Management, part of a person’s income support payment is allocated for priority items such as food, housing, clothing, utilities, education and medical care.

This measure will also make minor changes to Income Management to improve the program’s delivery.

Questions and answers

Whom does this measure affect?

This measure will affect people on eligible payments who live in an Income Management area. It will not affect people who live in regions where the Cashless Debit Card trial was implemented.

Please note, Cape York-specific Income Management applies in the communities of Aurukun, Coen, Doomadgee, Hope Vale and Mossman Gorge as part of a broader programme of welfare reform for the area.

What date will this measure start and finish?

The measure will start on 1 July 2017 and will end on 30 June 2019.
