STEM ICT Scheme - Alex

I’m Alex and I’m part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) ICT scheme.

I joined as part of the initial intake in 2016 and work as a Solution Designer in Brisbane.

Being selected in the first intake of the STEM ICT scheme has been a dream come true. The department has provided me with ways to apply my studies and I have been able to deliver worthwhile and meaningful outcomes. I feel there is nothing more important than shaping the way the department services the country. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that the work I do will help the community and pave the way for a brighter future.

There are big challenges in this department, but with each step I take, I am part of a team of talented and like-minded individuals who are there to give me their support and guidance. They regularly check on my progress and ensure I’m tracking well. One of my greatest achievements to date would be changing the way students apply for HELP loans and income support payments. I worked with the aim to make this process as seamless as possible.

Coming from an engineering background, the department supplied me with the relevant ICT training, and I continue to receive additional training which helps with my personal career aspirations.

Spending the best part of 5 years at university helped me develop a healthy, friendly routine involving going to the gym and sporting outings. Going from uni straight into full time work, I worried this routine would suffer, but because there’s a healthy work life balance promoted by the department and flexible working hours, this was not the case.

I’m thrilled to be a STEM recruit and if you think you’d fit this picture, don’t hesitate to apply.
