myGov and privacy - explanatory statement

The department manages the myGov online service on behalf of the Australian Government. The department takes the privacy of customer information seriously and an important element of the approach is to undertake rigorous and independent Privacy Impact Assessments of key services for which we are responsible.

We manage the myGov online service on behalf of the Australian Government.

The myGov service became operational in late May 2013 and provides Australians with easy, fast and secure online access to a number of government agencies with one username and password.

We take the privacy of customer information seriously. An important element of the approach is to undertake rigorous and independent Privacy Impact Assessments of key services for which we are responsible.

The Privacy Impact Assessments made a number of recommendations which we agreed to and addressed prior to the implementation dates. A number of the recommendations require ongoing monitoring and action which is being undertaken. The recommendations are detailed in the:

The listed Privacy Impact Assessments describe the design and operation of the myGov service since the May 2013 release and up to the May 2014 release. Further releases are planned to occur that may modify the design and operation of the myGov service as documented in these Privacy Impact Assessments.
