Apply for an advance payment using your Centrelink online account
Eligible customers may receive an advance payment of their Family Tax Benefit or their Social Security Entitlement payment.
An advance payment is part of your anticipated future entitlement, which is paid as a lump sum. The advance is then repaid by deductions from your regular fortnightly payment.
The minimum and maximum amount of advance payment available will depend on your individual circumstances. The repayment amount is automatically calculated based on the actual advance amount granted. Read more about advance payment options including eligibility.
Step 1: Log in
Once you have logged into myGov and selected your Centrelink online account, select the Advance Payment.
Alternatively, if you have a current advance, you can access the Advance Payment service via the My Profile tile.
Select my finances.
Then click the arrow, in the Advances section to view or apply for an advance payment.
Step 2: Advance payments
The Advance payments screen will provide information about your current and previous advances.
If you have any current advances, the Advance payments screen will show the fortnightly repayment amount, when the final repayment is due, how much of the advance payment has been paid and the amount outstanding.
If you are not eligible to apply for an advance at this time, a message will show the reason why you are not eligible. Where it can be determined, the next possible date when you may be eligible to apply will also be shown.
If you are not eligible for an advance payment, this is the end of the process. Go to Step 7.
If you are eligible and wish to apply for an advance, select Apply for an advance.
Step 3: Advance details
Select the type of advance payment you want to apply for.
Enter how much money you have left over at the end of the fortnight after covering all your regular expenses. You will need to include the dollars and cents amount, including the decimal point. After you have entered these details select Next.
The minimum and maximum amount of advance payment you can apply for will be shown. This is based on your current circumstances.
Enter the amount within this range that you want to apply for.
Depending on the advance type, you may be able to receive your advance payment in 1 payment or 2 installments.
If you select the advance payment to be paid in 2 separate instalments, you will need to specify the amount you would like the first payment to be, and the date you would like the remainder of the advance paid to you.
Your repayment amount will be determined on the entire amount of the advance payment.
If you are applying for a Family Tax Benefit advance, this can only be paid as a single payment.
After you have entered these details select Next.
Step 4: Review and submit
A summary of the details you have just provided will be shown.
Read the details on this page carefully.
If all the information is correct, accept the declaration and select Submit.
Step 5: Receipt
If your application is successful, you will be given a receipt number.
You only need to make further contact if you receive a message specifically telling you to contact us.
If you require a copy of the receipt, select the Printer icon.
To view the information you have provided, select the arrow to expand the Information you provided section.
To view your next regular payment, taking your advance repayments into consideration, select the arrow to expand the More information section.
Select Finish, to return to your Advance payments page.
Step 6: Current advances
We will provide you with a summary of your advance payments.
Step 7: Sign out
Once you are back on your homepage, you can complete other transactions.
Select Return to myGov to return to your myGov account.
For your privacy and security, remember to sign out when you have finished using your myGov account.
