Claiming Mobility Allowance

You should submit your claim for Mobility Allowance as soon as possible, so that we can pay you from the earliest possible date.

Before you start

Check if you are eligible for Mobility Allowance before you start your claim.

You cannot get Mobility Allowance if you receive a funded package of support from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Claiming options

Online

You can claim Mobility Allowance online. It is secure, convenient and easy to claim online.

You can also claim an advance for Mobility Allowance when you complete your online claim. You do not need to complete a separate advance payment form.

If you already have a Centrelink online account

Log on to your Centrelink online account or sign in through myGov to make a claim online.

The online claim does not need to be completed in one session. You can save your responses and continue with your claim at a later time.

Unable to claim online

If you are unable to claim online, you can claim Mobility Allowance using a paper form.

By form

Claim Mobility Allowance by completing the Claim for Mobility Allowance form and Medical report - Mobility Allowance form. You can also claim an advance payment by completing the appropriate questions on the claim for Mobility Allowance form. You do not need to complete a separate advance payment form.

If you do not have access to a printer, you can pick the forms up from a service centre or call the People with disability line and we will send one to you.

Supporting documents

You may need to provide some other documents to support your claim including:

  • a Medical Report from your treating doctor - if you have previously supplied medical evidence for another income support payment that shows you have substantial difficulty using public transport, you may not need to provide the Mobility Allowance Medical Report
  • Confirmation of identity documents - these must be presented at a service centre within 14 days

Submit your claim

Funds are paid directly into your bank account. Make sure you register your bank details when you submit your claim.

Online

If you are claiming online, you can submit your claim and most of your supporting documents electronically at the end of the process. Read more about submitting your required documents online.

By form

Submit your forms and supporting documents by post or in person at a service centre.

Claim outcome

We will tell you whether your claim is successful. If you are eligible for Mobility Allowance, we will let you know when your payment will start and how much you will get paid.
