Transfer funds to your BasicsCard from your Income Management account online
This guide provides step by step details on how to view and transfer funds from your Income Management Account to your BasicsCard.
The BasicsCard is a Personal Identification Number (PIN) protected card, which allows you to access your income managed funds through existing EFTPOS facilities at approved stores and businesses. The BasicsCard is available to those customers whose payments are income managed. More information about the BasicsCard is on our website.
Money can be transferred from your Income Management Account to your BasicsCard and also recalled from the BasicsCard to your Income Management account dependent on your needs. The easiest way to do this is by accessing your Centrelink account online.
Some important details to be aware of regarding the transfer of funds to your BasicsCard:
- You will need to have at least $1 in your Income Management Account
- You must have had a ‘priority needs’ discussion with Centrelink within the last 12 weeks
- Your BasicsCard balance will need to be less than or equal to your maximum balance, which can range between $100 and the default of $3,000
- Customers with a payment nominee in place are unable to access this service

Log on to your Centrelink online account from anywhere on the Human Services website. Once logged in, you will be presented with your account homepage. Regular transactions will be displayed on this page. To access the full menu select the icon in the top left of the page.
Hover over the ‘Income Management / BasicsCard’ menu item on the left hand side of the screen, then select ‘Transfer Funds to Basicscard’.
The ‘About this service’ page contains important information about the use of this service which you should read carefully.
Read the information on this page carefully. To continue to transfer funds from your Income Management Account to your BasicsCard, select ‘Start now’.
The ‘Transfer funds’ page displays your BasicsCard and Income Management Account and balances.
Enter in the amount you want to transfer in the mandatory field provided, then click ‘Continue’.
The ‘Review and Submit’ page will provide a summary of all the details you have just entered.
Read through this information carefully to ensure it is all correct.
Before submitting your details you will be required to accept the declaration. This declaration is to confirm that the information you have provided is correct.
If all the details you have provided are correct, select the ‘I accept this declaration’ tick box and then select ‘Submit’.
If your update has been successful, you will receive a message confirming that the funds have been successfully transferred to the BasicsCard from your Income Management Account. You will also be given a receipt number.
You only need to make further contact if you receive a message specifically advising to contact Centrelink.
A summary of your updated BasicsCard and Income Management Account balances will also be provided.
If you would like a printed copy of your receipt select ‘Print this page’.
Select ‘Return home’ to return to your ‘Welcome’ page.
You are back to your Centrelink online account homepage, from here you are ready to start accessing your Centrelink account online.
Remember to log off from your Centrelink online account when you are finished.
