Update current income using your Child Support online account

You can update your current income using your Child Support online account.

This guide provides a quick and easy, step by step process on how to update your income for the current year using your Child Support online account.

Use this guide to provide us with your current and estimated income for the current financial year prior to submitting your tax return to the Australian Taxation Office.

It is important to keep you income details up to date to ensure your child support assessment and child support payments are accurate.

Current Child support assessments use your adjusted taxable income from a previous year to determine your child support payments. Learn more about how we use your income to calculate child support payments.

If you need to provide us with a previous year's income, you can provide this information as long as you haven't submitted your tax return for that financial year to the Australian Taxation Office. Learn how to update your income for a previous year using your Child Support online account.

Step 1: Sign in

Once you have signed into myGov and selected your Child Support online account, you can access the full menu to make your selection.

Step 2: Select menu item

Select the Income menu item, then Update your current income.

Step 3: Select a case

For each child support agreement you have in place, you will have a corresponding case.

We outline how your income is used and we encourage you to read the information provided.

A list of your registered cases will be displayed. The income estimate you provide will apply to your cases that are displaying a tick.

If you have multiple cases your income estimate will apply to all of them. You cannot submit an income estimate for individual cases.

Step 4: Changed income details

Use the drop down arrow to provide a reason for your changed income details.

Enter the date your income changed.

You can type the date, or use the calendar icon to select the date your income changed.

When advising us of a change of income, you must select a date from the past. When working out your child support payments we determine how much you pay on your adjusted taxable income. Learn more about how we use your income to calculate your child support payments.

Select NEXT to continue.

You can select Previous to return to the previous page.

You can select Cancel if you want to cancel your update or select Save and return later if you want to complete your update later.

These options will be displayed throughout this process and can be used at any time they are presented.

Step 5: Year to date income calendar

Provide details of your year to date income, this means your income for this current financial year.

Ensure you complete all required fields, then select ADD INCOME DETAILS.

You may need to repeat this step if you have received income from more than one source.

If you have made a mistake you can correct the information you provided. Select Edit or Remove if you need to change or remove the details you have provided.

Once you have entered all of your income for this financial year, select NEXT to continue.

Step 6: Year to date income details

Answer the questions displayed on the YTD income details page, ensuring you have completed all required fields.

Select the question mark icon if you need help answering the questions at any stage.

The estimated income displayed will be calculated based on the information you have provided, along with the dates that this income is being assessed for. If you are unsure how this figure is calculated, select the question mark icon for assistance.

Once you have answered all the questions, select NEXT to continue.

Step 7: Estimated current income

To ensure we have an accurate estimate of your income for the remainder of the financial year, enter the details of your current income ensuring that you have completed all required fields, then select ADD INCOME DETAILS.

You may need to repeat this step if you receive income from more than once source.

Answer the questions displayed on the Estimated income details page, ensuring you have completed all required fields.

Select the question mark icon if you need help answering the questions at any stage.

Step 9: Summary and submit

A summary of the details you have provided will be displayed. Read all the information on this page carefully.

If any of the details are incorrect select previous to go back and correct these details.

You can select Cancel if you want to cancel you update or select Save and resume later if you want to complete your update later.

By selecting SUBMIT you declare the information provided is complete and correct.

Step 10: Confirmation of transaction

The Confirmation of transaction page lets you know we have received your update.

You can’t view this information after you leave this page, so you may want to print this page by selecting PRINT.

Select Close to return to your Child Support online account home page.

Step 11: Sign out

Once back on your home page, you can complete other transactions or return to your myGov account.
