Update your income and assets details using your Centrelink online account

Instructions on how to use your online account to tell us about changes to your income and assets details.

It’s important that you tell us when your circumstances change so we can correctly assess your eligibility for payments and services. This includes any increase or decrease to your or your partner's circumstances.  Read more about the changes to your circumstances you need to tell us about.

There are a number of Australian and overseas income and assets details you need to tell us about. This guide provides the first steps on how to add or update:

  • savings details including any savings, cheque, deeming accounts, cash in hand, money loaned or deposit accounts
  • share details
  • managed investments and superannuation
  • real estate assets including real estate you own or manage
  • other assets including personal effects, boats, caravans, life insurance, livestock and motor vehicles
  • other income including lump sum payments, commissions, list interests, grants and scholarships, leave payments and regular gifts you may receive

There are some types of income details you can’t update through your online account at this time. These include details of income you generate from:

  • real estate, including net income or losses from rental property, and income from boarders and lodgers
  • income from sole trader or partnership businesses, including farms
  • distributions or dividends from private trusts and private companies
If you need to tell us about changes to these types of income details, contact us by phone or by visiting us at one of our service centres.

Make sure you include all of the related categories when updating your income and assets details. For example, if you purchase a new asset with money from your savings, you will need to update the balance of your savings as well as adding the details of the new asset or investment.

If you need to make more than one change to your income and assets details, you will need to enter these separately, starting with the earliest change first.

Step 1: sign in and access your income and assets details

Sign into myGov.

Select your Centrelink online account to access your homepage and full menu options.

Select the Income and assets tile on the homepage to view and update your income and assets details.

If the Income and assets tile is not available on your homepage you can access your income and asset details by selecting the My profile tile on the homepage.

Select the My finances tab and then View income and assets details.

Select click here in the highlighted box to update your income and assets details.

Select the help text question mark icon to access helpful information about updating your income and assets details.

Step 2: tell us what income and assets details you’re updating

First, you need to tell us the date the income or asset change occurred. Use your keyboard to type the date or select the calendar icon to choose a date.

If you have more than one change to your income and assets details, you need to make each change separately, starting with the earliest change first.

Select the income and asset category you want to update. You can pick more than one category to update.

Select Next once all of the income and asset categories you want to update are selected.
