Vulnerable Welfare Payment Recipients Income Management

Your payments can be income managed if a social worker refers you or you’re a vulnerable young person.

A social worker can refer you for Income Management because they believe Income Management can help you and your family.

You’ll be income managed for 12 months. After that, a social worker will review your progress. Depending on the result, Income Management may continue.

Your payments can also be income managed if you aren’t a full time student, apprentice or currently volunteering for Income Management and you:

  • get the Unreasonable to Live At Home payment rate
  • are under 16 years of age and get a Special Benefit payment, or
  • are under 25 years of age, released from prison and had a Crisis Payment in the last 13 weeks

You’ll be income managed for 12 months.

What happens to your money

We’ll manage:

  • 50% of your payments, and
  • 100% of any advance and lump sum payments

The rest of your payments will be paid as usual.

Exclusion from Income Management

You can be excluded if:

  • Income Management will place your mental, physical or emotional wellbeing at risk, or
  • you had less than 25% of your basic rate of payment for at least 4 of the last 6 fortnights

If you’re excluded, Income Management stops for 12 months unless your circumstances change.

You can’t be excluded from Income Management if you were referred by a social worker.
