Centrepay payments for Aboriginal Community Benefit Fund (ACBF)
On 22 September 2016 our appeal in the ACBF case was heard in court.
Since July 2015, we have been telling you that Centrepay funeral insurance payments to the ACBF would stop from 1 July 2016. In May 2016, the ACBF applied to the Federal Court of Australia to overturn our decision and in June they won. As a result we didn’t stop Centrepay deductions that were still in place to ACBF.
We appealed the Court’s decision.
The appeal has been heard and the Court has not made a decision yet. We do not know how long it will take before we get one.
Existing Centrepay deductions will continue to be paid to ACBF.
We will let you know when we have more information.
If you want your Centrepay payments to ACBF to stop, you can cancel your Centrepay payment:
- using your Centrelink online account through myGov
- by calling your payment line number, or
- by visiting a service centre
If you don’t pay or if you miss payments, ACBF may not cover you if someone under your funeral plan dies.
If you’re looking for other ways to pay for funerals using Centrepay, the following options are available:
- pre-paid funerals
- funeral bonds
- savings plans
