Do you or your child get the Student Start-up Scholarship?

The Student Start-up Scholarship is being replaced by the Student Start-up Loan for all students.

From 1 July 2017, students getting Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY who received the scholarship in the past will no longer get it. Instead, the voluntary Student Start-up Loan will be available.

We know the upfront costs of returning to study can be expensive, so now is the time for students to start thinking about other options.

A student’s institute of study is the best place to find out about upfront costs and other ways of accessing materials.

If financial help is still needed, students can apply for the Student Start-up Loan. The loan is a payment of $1,035 that must be repaid.

Students should make an informed decision and consider how taking the loan could impact them in the long term before applying.
