Extra support for young job seekers getting into the workforce
From 1 July 2017 if you start work, we may suspend your payment for 26 weeks rather than cancel it.
This means we’ll restore your payment without the need to reclaim, should you lose your job through no fault of your own.
To get a job under the subsidy, you must be under 25 years of age and have been registered with a jobactive or Transition to Work provider for 6 months or more. Talk to your provider about your eligibility for employment under the Youth Bonus Wage Subsidy.
Your provider will let you know if a job you get is under the subsidy. They will also tell us. We’ll send you a letter to confirm the suspension of your payment.
If you lose your job within the 26 week suspension period:
- through no fault of your own, we’ll put you back on your payment and you won’t have to claim again
- because of your behaviour or by choice, we’ll cancel your payment and you’ll need to claim again online
If you have a question about the payments and services we offer for job seekers, you can ask it on our Department of Human Services Facebook page.
We have information and tools to help you with your finances.
