The ordinary waiting period has changed for some new claims

You may now need to serve a 1 week waiting period.

From 1 July 2017, the ordinary waiting period (OWP) of 1 week applies to new claims for:

The OWP begins after you’ve served any other waiting periods such as Liquid Assets Waiting Period and Newly Arrived Resident’s Waiting Period.

You may not have to wait the 1 week period if you’re experiencing severe financial hardship due to a personal financial crisis that happened in the past 4 weeks.

We’ll let you know how long you have to wait when we assess your claim.

You don’t need to do anything if you’re already getting a payment. The change only applies to new claims.
