Change your temporary password for your Centrelink online account
Instructions for how to change your Centrelink temporary password.
When you register for a Centrelink online account, you will get a temporary password.
You will be asked to change this password to one of your own choice when you log on for the first time.
When you change your password, you will also need to create 5 secret questions and answers.
Each time you log on to your Centrelink online account, you will be asked for your password and will need to answer one of your secret questions.
Step 1: log in using your temporary password
Log in to your Centrelink online account, using your Customer Access Number (CAN) and the temporary password you were provided when registered, then select Next.
Step 2: set a new password and secret questions
Once you have logged in, you will be asked to change your password.
You must do this to access your Centrelink online account.
Enter your CAN, then enter a new password. Confirm your new password, then select Submit.
Choose a new password and enter it in the new password field. Confirm your password by entering it again in the confirm password field. Your new password:
- is not case sensitive
- must be between 6 and 8 characters long
- must include letters and numbers
- can contain some special characters, including:
! @ # $ % ^ & *
- must not use obvious combinations like 12345a or 111222a
- must not be the same as your current password
Create 5 secret questions and answers, then select Next.
Create or choose secret questions that only you can answer. You can select up to 3 questions from the drop down list and then will need to create at least 2 questions of your own. You can also create 5 of your own secret questions and answers if you choose to.
You will receive a confirmation once your 5 secret questions and answers have been set.
Select Return to log in.
Step 3: log in using your chosen password
Enter your CAN and your chosen password, then select Next.
Answer your secret question and select Log in.
You are now logged in to your Centrelink online account and can complete transactions as required.
Step 4: log out
For your privacy and security, always LOG OUT of your Centrelink online account when you have finished using it.
