Medicare Bulk Billing
Bulk billing is when your health professional accepts the Medicare benefit as full payment for a service.
Many health professionals bulk bill patients such as pensioners or Health Care Card holders.
If they bulk bill, you:
- will be asked to sign a form after the appointment and you will be given a copy
- can’t be charged any other costs such as booking, administration or record keeping fees, or a charge for bandages.
If you have more than one service during the same visit you may not be bulk billed for every service.
Medicare benefits help cover the costs of visits to a health professional, such as a doctor, optometrist or specialist. Some medical services are subsidised by the Australian Government. These are outlined in the Medicare Benefits Schedule.
