If you are looking for work, have recently lost your job, or are at risk of losing your job, there are payments and services to support you.
Payments when looking for work
Newstart Allowance provides financial help if you are looking for work. It supports you while you do activities that may increase your chances of finding a job, such as studying or training. The amount of Newstart Allowance you are paid depends on your situation. Waiting periods may apply.
Youth Allowance provides financial help for young people who are:
- studying full time
- undertaking a full time Australian apprenticeship
- looking for work or
- temporarily incapacitated for work or study
If you pay or receive child support, make sure we know about any changes to your circumstances. Changes may affect the amount of child support you pay or receive. You can update your child support arrangement by calling using your Child Support online accounts through myGov or calling 131 272. Read more about changes that affect your child support.
Support to help find work
A jobactive organisation, Disability Employment Services or Community Development Programme or Transition to Work provider can help you look for work and get a job. You may be referred to one of these providers if you have Mutual Obligation Requirements and claim:
