Changes to the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI)

From 1 January 2017, there are changes to scoring and questions for the ACFI.

What it means for you

If your care recipient’s ACFI appraisal is due before 1 January 2017, the previous scheme applies. You need to answer questions under the previous scheme to determine your payment.

If you have an ACFI appraisal due on or after 1 January 2017, and you’re submitting the appraisal from 9 December 2016, the new scheme applies. You need to answer questions under the new scheme to determine your payment. If you submitted the reappraisal before

9 December 2016, your payment will be based on the previous scheme.

The table below shows the ACFI scheme that applies. This depends on when the current ACFI expires and the date you submit the new ACFI.

Date ACFI is due Date ACFI submitted
Before 9 December 2016 On or After 9 December 2016
On or after 1 January 2017 Previous scheme New scheme
On or before 31 December 2016 Previous scheme Previous scheme
