Help patients get their Medicare benefit direct to their bank account

Check your patients have their bank account details registered with Medicare as we no longer pay Medicare benefits by cheque.

EFT payments are easier and faster for your patients. Their benefit will normally be paid into their bank account within 2 business days.

You and your staff can still lodge patients’ claims online, even if they haven’t registered their bank details. If you lodge the claim on behalf of your patients please remind them they don’t need to lodge the claim with Medicare.

If they don’t have their bank details registered with us, we’ll send them a letter telling them we owe them money and how they can get their benefit.

Make sure the person who paid for the service is selected as the claimant. For example, if the patient is a child and the parent pays for the service, the Medicare benefit is paid to the parent.
