You also need to decide how you wish to receive your payment.
You can claim Child Care Benefit for approved care in a number of ways.
We'll automatically assess your eligibility for Child Care Rebate when you claim Child Care Benefit for approved care.
Even if you're already receiving Child Care Benefit for approved child care or Child Care Rebate for one or more children, you still need to claim for any additional children who start attending approved care.
You can claim Child Care Benefit for approved care as a fee reduction or as a lump sum online. It's secure, convenient and easy to claim online.
Start your claim online
To make a claim online you need a myGov account and a Centrelink online account. Your myGov account must be linked to Centrelink.

I don’t have a Centrelink online account or a myGov account
If you’ve received a payment or service from us, you can use your Customer Reference Number (CRN). Find this on a letter we’ve sent you and register for a Centrelink online account.
You can then create a myGov account and select Services to link Centrelink.
Express Plus Centrelink mobile app
If you're already receiving Family Tax Benefit for a child, you can claim Child Care Benefit for approved care as a fee reduction using the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.
If you're already receiving Family Tax Benefit for a child, you can claim Child Care Benefit for approved care as a fee reduction by calling the Families line.
By post or in person
You can claim Child Care Benefit for approved care by completing the:
- Claim for Approved Child Care payments form, if you want to receive Child Care Benefit for approved care as a fee reduction, or
- Claim for Approved Child Care Payments - an annual lump sum payment of Child Care Benefit, and read the information booklet if you want to receive Child Care Benefit for approved care as a lump sum, or
- Registration for formal enrolment - for families claiming Child Care Benefit as a lump sum payment form which will enable child care services to send attendance during the year before you submit your lump sum claim
Claiming for registered care
To claim Child Care Benefit for registered care, you need to complete the Claim for Child Care Benefit for registered care form.
Acceptable receipts for the care must be provided each time you claim. The receipts must be in the name of you or your partner. Claims can be made up to 1 year after the care was provided.
You may need to provide some other documents to support your claim. We’ll tell you what we need and the documents will need to be provided within 14 days.
Submit your claim
If you're claiming online, you can submit your claim and most supporting documents electronically at the end of the process.
Submit your form by post, or in person at a service centre.
There are time limits for submitting lump sum claims.
We'll tell you if your claim is successful. If you're eligible for Child Care Benefit for approved care, we'll tell you when your payment will start.
