How much Austudy you can get

The amount of Austudy you get depends on how much you earn and how much your assets are worth.

We use an income test and an asset test to work out how much you can get.

Basic rates

This table shows the basic Austudy payment rates. These are the rates we use for most people.

Other rates

We use a different rate if you’ve previously been long term unemployed before moving onto Austudy.

Long term unemployed means you haven’t had a job for at least 26 out of the last 39 weeks.

We use these rates if:

  • you don’t have a dependent child
  • you’ve been getting an income support payment other than a student payment, and
  • you’re starting a full time course that will take 12 months or more to finish
