Transfer to Age Pension

If you are age pension age and get an eligible income support payment, you can apply to transfer to Age Pension.

Reaching age pension age

Age Pension is usually the best payment if you are age pension age.

When you reach age pension age, any superannuation you have may affect the rate of payments you get.

Eligible payments for transfer

If you get one of these income support payments you’re eligible to apply to transfer to the Age Pension once you reach age pension age:

Payments that will stop when you reach age pension age

You aren’t eligible for Newstart Allowance and Sickness Allowance if you are over age pension age.

You should apply to transfer to Age Pension to see if you are eligible for that payment instead.

If you don’t get an eligible payment

If you don’t get an eligible income support payment, you need to complete a full Age Pension claim.

If you get an eligible payment

If you get an eligible income support payment, we’ll invite you to apply to transfer to Age Pension 9 weeks before you reach age pension age. We’ll send your invitation to your online account, if you have one. If you don’t, we’ll send it to you in the mail.

Transferring is simpler and easier than completing a full Age Pension claim form. You can apply online to transfer to Age Pension.

You can submit your claim up to 13 weeks before you meet the age and residence requirements for Age Pension.

To make a claim online you need a Centrelink online account linked to myGov.

I don’t have a Centrelink online account or a myGov account

If you’ve received a payment or service from us, you can use your Customer Reference Number (CRN) to get an online account. Find your CRN on a letter we’ve sent you or your Health Care Card, if you have one. Then, go to myGov to create a myGov account and use your CRN to link Centrelink.

If you don’t know your CRN or you haven't got a payment from us, go to a service centre with photo ID. Tell us you want to register for an online account.

You can then create a myGov account and link Centrelink.

You don’t need to complete the online transfer in one session. You can save your responses and continue with your transfer at a later time. We will only ask you questions relevant to your circumstances.
