Payments

Age Pension

The main income support payment for people who have reached age pension age.

  • reached age pension age
  • under the income and assets test limits
  • an Australian resident, normally for at least 10 years

Newstart Allowance

The main income support payment while you’re unemployed and looking for work.

  • at least 22 but under age pension age
  • looking for paid work
  • under the income and assets test limits
  • prepared to meet mutual obligation requirements

Disability Support Pension

Financial help if you have a permanent physical, intellectual or psychiatric condition that stops you from working.

  • at least 16 and under age pension age
  • have a permanent medical condition that prevents you from working 15 hours or more per week within the next 2 years
  • under the income and assets test limits

Carer Payment

An income support payment if you give constant care to someone who has a severe disability, illness, or an adult who is frail and old.

  • you’re caring for 1 or more people with care needs which score high enough on the ADAT or DCLAD
  • they will have these needs for at least 6 months or the rest of their life
  • under the pension income and assets test limits
  • you and your care receiver must both be residing in Australia

Parenting Payment

The main income support payment while you’re a young child’s main carer.

You must have income and assets below the limits, and be the principal carer of a child:

  • younger than 8 if you’re single, or
  • younger than 6 if you have a partner

You can’t claim Parenting Payment before the birth of your child.

Status Resolution Support Services Payment (SRSS)

A regular payment to help with basic living costs if you live in Australia and you’re waiting for a decision about your immigration status.

  • the Department of Immigration and Border Protection will decide if you're eligible
